Have you ever sat at your table and started to worry about whether you will be able to eat that night? The answer is probably no. Many of us have had the luxury of not having to worry about when our next meal will be, or whether we will even have a next meal. However, that is not the case for some people. There are people all over the world, just as you are reading this article, who do not have a roof over their heads, who cannot afford a proper education, and who have to work endless hours to help their families and bring food to the table.
There are families who are fleeing their homes and their countries just because they want to have a better life. They want their children to receive a proper education. They want their children to get proper meals and not have to worry about starving. They want to find a way out of poverty, they just want to live a happy life. What is the only option they have? Moving to another country.
There are many countries around the world that have a large population that is living in extreme poverty. Some examples of these countries are Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, among others. I just talked about Central American countries, but what about the poorest countries in the world? Like India, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, and Bangladesh? What about the Yemen crisis? According to Yemen Crisis l UNICEF, unicef.org, “Yemen is the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with more than 24 million people, about 80% of the population, in need of humanitarian assistance, including more than 12 million children.” Children! Children who are living in poverty, have no drinking water, and cannot return to school. Because of Covid-19, 1/3 of all children in the world have not been able to return to school. Isn’t that scary? Imagine not being able to go back to school or having to worry about what you will eat/drink the next day. We have no idea what these children and families are going through.
There are organizations that are trying to help, but this is not enough. We need more people to know about these issues so that this crisis can end sooner. Right now, it has close to no media coverage. We need more people to help. So please do whatever you can to help these people, children, and families. Sign petitions, donate, protest, or simply inform yourself and your friends and family. Believe it or not, one person can make a huge difference.
I have provided links to websites where you can take action or simply inform yourself. Remember, you have the power to change the world. You just need a place to start.
